Dr. Aimee Schoonmaker is a Lecturer at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Florida, United States, where she has been a member of the TESOL program in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department for over 15 years, teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses, among them Applied Linguistics, Grammar, Practicum, and Writing with a focus on English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for international students pursing their education in the United States. Her teaching and research interests revolve mostly around metalinguistic awareness, both for language learners and language teachers, Corrective Feedback (CF) in writing, and the importance of meaningful and real-life elements in second language learning and teaching. Prior to her work at UCF, she worked in EFL settings in Brazil, predominantly in language institutes and K-12 English education. She has been an English teacher for over 30 years and her experience in the field has given her a deep sense of appreciation for language learners in general, and English Language Learners (ELLs) in particular, and their efforts to master a second language.
